How I Coach

I coach through SRQ Tennis, the coaching business I founded in Sarasota. This page is about how I coach. For lessons and scheduling, go to srq.tennis.

The Six Pillars

Every lesson I teach is built on six principles.

  1. Accuracy Inside Representative Conditions. Accuracy gets built in live conditions that look like a match, not off a basket. The standard is 8 out of 10 to a target.
  2. Live Ball Is the Method. Most of the court time is live rallies, not fed balls or a machine.
  3. Technique Is Geometry. Center contact and a square face. I coach the contact, not the choreography.
  4. Confidence Is Built, Not Given. Players get confident from evidence, so we track progress with numbers instead of praise.
  5. Movement & Conditioning in the Right Order. Mobility first, then activation, then high intensity work. Movement coaching teaches the body what tennis looks like.
  6. Channel the Fire. Competitive frustration is fuel. The Between Point Routine gives it somewhere to go: breathe, cue, target, visualize, go.

Every drill I use has a number attached, so a player always knows whether today went better than last week.

Who I Coach

Adults. Most of my players right now are adults who already play and have stopped getting better. You play three times a week and the level hasn't moved. Usually the fix isn't starting over. It's practicing one thing at a time and counting it.

Juniors. I also coach kids and teens. Parents get the same thing adults do: a plan, and numbers that show whether it's working.
